The Newspaper Article....

Unbeaten Cottonwood sent a message to the other three semifinalists in the Class 4A football playoffs Friday. The Colts play defense, too. Quarterback Steve Romero completed 20 of 36 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns, but Cottonwood's under-publicized defense dominated Bonneville during the Colts' 44-7 quarterfinal victory. The Lakers managed only 148 yards of total offense, including 36 on the meaningless final drive of the game. Bonneville's only touchdown came after Cottonwood had built a 28-0 lead, and it capped a drive that was aided by two personal foul calls on the Colts. The Cottonwood defense also scored the break-it-open touchdown. Early in the second quarter, end James Washington read a Bonneville flea-flicker, stepped in front of a lateral pass back to Laker quarterback Todd Aubrey and rumbled 28 yards for a score that made it 21-0. Washington's memory of his touchdown? "I thought I was going to get tackled," he said. Said Thomas: "That was a great play. Our defensive line is very young; he's only a sophomore. So that was a good bonus right there because it was huge - a score by the defense." Referring to Cottonwood's 31-24 win over Orem in the first round, Thomas said, "Our defense really picked it up from last week. They did

everything we asked them to do. . . . We're really happy with them." Offensively, Romero was nearly unstoppable. So was Isi Sofele, who rushed 27 times for 134 yards and a touchdown. He gained 90 yards on 14 carries in the first half. "When [Romero] makes smart decisions with the football, he's dangerous," Thomas said. "And today he was right on. . . . With him and [Sofele] back there, it's a two-headed monster." luhm@sltrib.com

First game of the Play-Offs

The sweetest team ever!!! After the game we were all asked to stay behind for a few minutes... One of Cottonwoods teachers is battling cancer... The football players and their coaches presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a gift...

The whole presentation was very touching and as a parent it makes you proud to know the kids and the coaches take the time to acknowledge there are bigger things than Football....

If you look closely the boys are on their knees and the teacher is holding her flowers...

James is chasing the QB

Even though our Colts played a good game..... Orem brought their own Ref's to the game.. Our boys were up 17-0 at half time but thanks to two "PHANTOM PASS INTERFERENCE" penalties that lead to 16 points for Orem....The score was closer then the game...

State Quarter Finals Nov 8, 2008

State Quarter Finals: COTTONWOOD vs BONNEVILLE 44-7

This game meant a lot to Cottonwood and their players... We are going to the first game of the Championships next week at the University of Utah... BUT even said that it was more personal to James and myself.... James dedicated this game to his Uncle Mike that passed away on November 6. James played his best game of the season... He made 10 tackles, blocked a pass and had an interception which he then took the ball ran as fast as he could and scored a "TOUCH DOWN" that was the moment for his dad... I thought Big James was going to fall down the bleachers.... he was so "Proud" of his son.... okay we all were.... Guys it was a game that was just so "AWESOME". James called his grandpa so he could share the game with him... during the conversation he said "grandpa someone told me to stop running and look up" that was the play that he made the interception... Dad said to James "maybe it was your Uncle watching the game... James kept his focus last night... maybe it was his sweet spirit that allowed him to play this game the way he did.... and again he has a "Humbled Heart"

James made it to the Desert News and the Salt Lake Tribune's sport section.... GO COLTS...TAKE IT ALL THE WAY!!! 12-0 UNDEFEATED!!!!!
